Recent edit history (12/6/2008): Added race abilities.

This guide is for the Rogwel Shadow Walker. Sta costs are estimates and are not completely accurate. To be a Shadow Walker you have to choose nation Rogwel -> Rogue -> lv10 job change to Shadow Walker.

Overview: The Rogwel counterpart of the Elerd Assassin, Shadow Walker is currently considered one of the best and most popular class in NeoSteam. This is due to this the stun, and other movement debiliating abilities this class possesses, which this class can use at range and with no cast time, as well as it's ability to deal high damage to enemies even from afar, coupled with this class' ability to do all that with the element of surprise using invisibility. This class has proven itself to be a pain to Elerd at all levels, although it is also easy to kill when not invisible.

Race: The best race for rogue type job is supposed to be human. I do not know the details about the exact differences between the ending stats for each race, however I believe humans have the most life as rogue compared to other races.

Humans have the following racial abilities:
1. Lower buying prices from shops. (lv5)
2. Increased resistance to sleep abnormal state. (lv10)
3. Increased gold from enemies. (lv15 not very sure on this one)
4. Increased attack speed by 20%. (lv20)
5. An active skill that removes one abnormal status. Cooldown 5 min. (lv25)

- Skills

Sword
Rogwel Trackers have these exact same sword skills, and Artifact Makers have msot of them. Requires a sword or dagger.

1. Full Swing
Your basic sword damage skill.
Cooldown: 15 seconds.
Casting Cost: 7 sta, +4 per additional level.
Damage Rating: 130.
Special Effects: The skill level cap for this skill is 10 no matter what level you are.
*Very low sta cost, low damage. Highly sta efficient skill.

2. Wind Blade (Required Character Level: 3)
An AoE sword damage skill.
Cooldown: 25 seconds.
Casting Cost: 8 sta, +6 per additional level.
Damage Rating: 120.
Special Effects: AoE
*Low sta cost, low damage, long cooldown. Not really good for anything as you can just use a spear for comparable AoE effects.

3. Dual Weapon (Required Character Level: 6)
Allows you to dual wield.

4. Snap Attack (Required Character Level: 11) [Rogwel Only]
Deal damage proportional to the enemy's attack. When used it appears as if you are trusting your sword into an enemy, with a yellow visual impact like effect.
Cooldown: 25 seconds.
Casting Cost: 11 sta, +8 per additional level.
Damage Rating: Proportional to the enemy's attack
*Rather low sta cost, deals good damage to mob.

5. Chain Assault (Required Character Level: 14)
Attacks multiple times for random damage. Has a signature laser like sound and multiple red flash visual effect when used.
Cooldown: 30 seconds.
Casting Cost: 23 sta, +15 per additional level.
Damage Rating: 100
Special Effects: I believe it attacks 4 times. Higher levels increase chance of dealing max damage.
*High sta cost, low damage per hit. Probably works better on weakly armoured targets.

6. Fly Attack (Required Character Level: )
A ranged sword skill. If someone uses a sword and hits you from afar with a yellow projectile, it's probably this.
Cooldown: 15 seconds.
Casting Cost: 12 sta, +9 per additional level.
Damage Rating: 240
Special Effects: Ranged.
*Low sta cost, low cooldown, high damage. A useful skill when leveling, killing running enemies and so on.

Archery
Trackers have these skills as well. Requires a bow.

1. Double Shot (Required Character Level: 11) [Rogwel Only]
Quickly shoots 2 arrows. Your bow appears to have gun like flashes when you use this skill. It is also accompanied by a double strafting sound.
Cooldown: 8 seconds.
Casting Cost: 7 sta, +4 per additional level.
Damage Rating: 150
*Low sta cost, low cooldown.

2. Weep (Required Character Level: 11) [Rogwel Only]
Attacks enemy with some bow force.
Cooldown: 15 seconds.
Casting Cost: 10 sta, +7-8 per additional level.
Damage Rating: 180
*If you intend to use a bow as your primary weapon I suggest you max this and Double Shot.

Venom Skills [Rogwel Only][Shadow Walker Only]
Requires Gel to use, which can be bought from the tools shop. The range of these skills is equal to the range of your weapon.

1. Poison Gel (Required Character Level: 11)
Attacks an enemy with a poisoned weapon.
Cooldown: 5 seconds.
Casting Cost: 5 sta, +3 per additional level.
Damage Rating: N/A
Special Effects: Poisons an enemy for 6 secs. Additional levels increase success rate, effect and duration.
*Cheap cast cost (not counting the cost of gel) and does pretty decent damage, not a bad skill for leveling.

2. Slow Gel (Required Character Level: 11)
Attacks enemy with a poisoned weapon that lowers his movespeed and defence.
Cooldown: 10 seconds.
Casting Cost: 5 sta, +3 per additional level.
Damage Rating: N/A
Special Effects: Debuffs an enemy with slow for 25 secs. Additional levels increase success rate and increases defence break debuff effect.
*The earliest slow skill you get, I'm neutral on this one. It's not as good as root in my opinion, but it is still a alternative slow/stop debuff, and does lower enemy defence.

3. Sleep Gel (Required Character Level: 14)
Attacks enemy with a poisoned weapon that puts him to sleep.
Cooldown: 10 seconds.
Casting Cost: 6 sta, +4-5 per additional level.
Damage Rating: N/A
Special Effects: Debuffs an enemy with sleep (something like a stun that dispels when you are attacked) for 7 secs. Additional levels increase duration by 2secs/level and success rate.
*Probably the most useless gel. Almost nobody uses sleep in the game.

4. Inferior Swift Gel (Required Character Level: 17)
Attacks enemy with a poisoned weapon that lowers his attack speed. Removes a buff on an enemy when used on a player or summon.
Cooldown: 10 seconds.
Casting Cost: 6 sta, +4-5 per additional level.
Damage Rating: N/A
Special Effects: Debuffs an enemy with inferior swift for 13 secs. Removes a buff on players and summons. This does not apply to national buffs. Additional levels increase duration by 3 secs/level and success rate.
*Might be good in pvp againt Elerd sins. Then again, you shouldn't be having any trouble with them anyway.

5. Root Gel (Required Character Level: 20)
Attacks enemy with a poisoned weapon that roots him.
Cooldown: 10 seconds.
Casting Cost: 7 sta, +5 per additional level.
Damage Rating: 140
Special Effects: Debuffs an enemy with root (cannot move, can still attack and cast spells) for 7 secs. Additional levels increase duration by 2secs/level and success rate.
*Useful as a secondary stop skill if the enemy gets anti-stun cores.

6. Stun Gel (Required Character Level: )
Attacks enemy with a poisoned weapon that stuns him.
Cooldown: 10 seconds.
Casting Cost: 8 sta, +5 per additional level.
Damage Rating: 140
Special Effects: Stuns an enemy for 7 secs. Additional levels increase duration by 2secs/level and success rate.
*Instant cast stun thats superior to anything Elerd has, firstly because it's instant cast, secondly because it has a long range with a gun, thirdly because it has short cooldown, and fourthly because you can use it while invisible. You can cause enemies to lose exp by stunning them while they are overwhelmed by mob in rearland. It's a pretty mean thing to do, but some people do it.

Assassination Skills [Assassin/Shadow Walker only]

1. Red Swift (Required Character Level: 11) [Rogwel Only]
Restores caster's hp proportional to damage dealt. Appears as a red laser going through the enemy when used.
Cooldown: 30 seconds.
Casting Cost: 15 sta, +10-11 per additional level.
Damage Rating: 145
Special Effects: Heals for about 2x the damage dealt. Additional level increase success rate of healing. Ranged.
*Very useful skill that deals damage and heals at the same time.

2. Clarity (Required Character Level: 11)
Channeling skill that turns you invisible.
Cooldown: 30 seconds.
Casting Cost: 16 sta, +10-11 per additional level.
Damage Rating: N/A
Special Effects: 3 sec cast time, grants invisibility buff that dispels when you use skills or potions, get damaged or detected, or attack someone. Does not work if enemies are nearby. Your movement speed is reduced while in hiding. Higher levels increase movespeed while hiding.
*Get at least 1 level. You're an Shadow Walker for goodness' sake.

3. Druping Assault (Required Character Level: ) [Rogwel Only]
Attacks an enemy's weak point. Does more damage when an enemy has an abnormal status debuff. Appears as a blue swordlike trusting action when used.
Cooldown: 40 seconds.
Casting Cost: 15 sta, +10-11 per additional level.
Damage Rating: 220
Special Effects: Does more damage when an enemy has an abnormal status debuff. Ranged.
*Use a gel on an enemy prior to using this, unless he has already be debuffed. Does extremely high amounts of damage when used right. At lower levels it is capable of one hit kills of mobs 10 levels higher than you. Probably your most damaging skill.

4. Purloin (Required Character Level: )
Lockpicking skill for treasure chests. Higher levels opens chests in higher level areas.
*Optional. You can get about 10-20k gold from chests in lv40-50 areas, but whether this is worth it is questionable.

5. Assassination (Required Character Level: 20)
Deals damage according to enemy life. Looks and sounds like a flash of black lightning striking the target when used.
Cooldown: 40 seconds.
Casting Cost: 35 sta, +23-24 per additional level.
Damage Rating: Proportional to enemy life.
Special Effects: Requires a sword or dagger. Does not work on boss monsters. Works on human players but only if you are in hiding. Additional levels increases success rate.
*Thanks to Dekas about information that the damage of this skill does not increase with level, only the success rate. Very high sta cost. Cooldown shouldn't really matter because you shouldn't need to use this more than once per enemy. Appears to deal damage as a percentage of current enemy health plus some damage and is affected by your attack. Expect it to take away about 25% health for players and 70% for normal mob. Rather impractical in most cases due to its over the top sta cost, but good for enemy npcs.

- Skill Build Recommendations

Remember that the max skill level for a skill is 1 + ((your level+9) / 10). That means 4 at lv21, 5 and lv31 and so on. In my opinion you should either max out skills or leave them at lv0 or 1. There are however no skill for Shadow Walker that I would consider 1 point wonders. Thus you should have several maxed out skills depending on your playstyle and 1-0 for the rest. Remember to save points before before every X1 level, for example 11, 21, 31, 41 so that you can max skills out when their skill leveling cap increases.

Suggested Minimum Base Skill Choices:
Druping Assault Max - Your highest damage skill.
Fly Attack Max - Powerful ranged attack. Using this in combination with Druping and Stun makes you capable at killing people at about gun range.
Stun Gel Max - Probably the best stun in the game.
Clarity 1 - To hide.

Recommended Additions:
Red Swift Max - To survive battles longer by healing yourself.
Chain Assasult/Snap Attack Max - Good damage skills.

Possible Additions:
Dual Weapon 1 - For dual wielding.
Clarity Any - For more movespeed while hiding.
Poison Gel Max - Good for training, and good source of DPS.
Slow Gel Max - Optional slow.
Root Gel Max - Optional root.
Purloin Max - In the case you find yourself completely broke, search the land for spare coins?
Assassination Max - Possibly good at higher levels.
Double Shot Max - Shadow Walkers are superior in 80% of cases to Tracker in my opinion so you might want to play Shadow Walker with a bow instead of Trackers.
Weep Max - Same as above.

Unknown Effectiveness:
Inferior Swift Gel

- Playstyle

Shadow Walkers are able to take out most enemies in a single combo using Clarity, Stun, Druping Assault, Chain Assault/Snap attack + Fly Attack. (Assassination possible at higher levels) However for high hp ones (like Paladins) take advantage of situations where an enemy is preoccupied or when he is running away, ensure he doesn't do so alive. If going against groups, put more slow/root gels in hotkey so that it is easy for you to escape, and use your common sense. If you like to go head on, equip a bow/gun first so that you can stun an enemy from afar. Use Red Swift to recover life lost from attacks.

Having a bow/gun as an alternate weapon is optional, but recommended. This is because gels take the range of your weapon. As far as I know guns have the longest range.

Pet: I recommend the heal pet, but's really up to you. Remember that when you go into hiding your pet is automatically unsummoned.

- Leveling

A debuff + Druping Assault sould be able to kill most mobs easily. If not, poison is optional to speed killing with its low sta cost. Shadow Walkers mostly only need sta pots as life is easily recovered using Red Swift. It is recommended that you train in Rearland. Firstly because it's faster. Secondly because you have chances to kill people, and if played right, they won't be able to kill you. Although it is almost ridiculously easy to kill people with a Shadow Walker, I would recommended that you focus on leveling unless you find the need to put the fear of a Shadow Walker in Elerd out of ethics. If you have a bow/gun, leveling is a good time to practice weapon switching. Use a bow for mob far away and switch to a sword once it is close. The bow helps lower the life of mob before it reaches you, reducing the need for health pot.

As far as I know there is no good way to train tp as Shadow Walker. Just keep casting hiding whenever possible in town and dispell it with unsummon pet, and use cheap skills with long cooldown whenever possible. Full swing is convenient for this purpose, although it doesn't give the best tp. Use the skill trainer in town whenever you go afk for long periods, even at low levels. From my experience Shadow Walkers have some of the hardest times training tp.

Humans are the best for rogue because they receive the most DEX over all and because they receive the attack speed bonus trait passive.

Also, if one wanted to play a female rogue, a Taxzhn Human would another option because they get the same bonuses and stats as regular Humans do I believe.
